Director IDs: New ASIC Requirement from 1 July 2027
Australia’s business registers are changing to make them easier to use, more accurate, and more secure.
From 1 July 2027, companies will be required to provide director IDs to ASIC when updating company details.
What’s changing?
Under the new laws, companies will need to provide director IDs to ASIC through normal company reporting processes, including:
- annual reviews
- notifying changes to director details
- updating company records
Over time, the companies register will also show whether a company has provided director IDs for its directors.
Why this matters
These changes are designed to:
- reduce the risk of fraud and identity misuse
- improve the accuracy of company records
- make it easier to identify company directors
- improve the quality and usability of registry information
What should you do now?
Although the new requirements do not start until 1 July 2027, now is a good time to make sure your records are current.
We recommend that you:
- check your company details are up to date
- confirm that all current directors are correctly listed
- update any incorrect names, addresses, or contact details
Keeping your information accurate now will help avoid delays or issues when the new rules begin.
Important: Please provide us with your Director ID
